Pair held over €88k drugs seizure to appear in court after discovery of cannabis growhouse

charged | Gardai seized around €88,000 worth of cannabis plants and herbal cannabis after search at a property in Castleblayney on Tuesday An image of some of the plants which were seized by gardaí in Monaghan.A man and woman are to appear in court this morning charged in connection to the discovery of a cannabis growhouse in Co Monaghan.Gardai seized around €88,000 worth of cannabis plants and herbal cannabis after search at a property in Castleblayney on Tuesday.During the course of that search, a growhouse was discovered containing 50 cannabis plants, with a street value of €42,000, as well as €46,000 worth of dried cannabis herb and €1,000 worth of MDMA.The operation was carried out by local gardaí, assisted by the members from Community Engagement Monaghan, Crime Unit Monaghan and Divisional Drugs Unit.A man and woman, both of whom are aged in their 30s were arrested and questioned at a Garda station in the Co. Monaghan for a number of hours yesterday under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.They have since been charged and are due to appear at a sitting of Cavan District Court this morning.“The man and woman (both aged in their 30s) arrested following the seizure of cannabis plants and herb with an estimated street value of €880,000 in Castleblayney on Tuesday, 17th September, 2024, have both been charged,” said a garda spokesperson.“They are due to appear before Cavan District Court today.”
