The lithium-ion cells used in batteries today are the standard, and they don't self-discharge very much. Also, lithium-ion battery storage containers usually have different built-in breakers that can instantly switch a highly drained battery to a rest state to protect the cells from over-charge. This means that batteries don't have to be fully charged before being stored.
