Cyclist (50s) found dead in Roscommon as gardai launch investigation

Roscommon HospitalGardaí are investigating after the body of a cyclist was found in Co Roscommon in the early hours of his morning.The discovery was made at approximately 2am today, Sunday 15 September, at Cloonchambers, Castlerea.The cyclist, a man in his 50s, was pronounced dead at the scene.His body has been taken to Roscommon University Hospital where a post-mortem examination will take place shortly.The results of the post-mortem will determine the course of the investigation.The road is currently closed for technical examination by Forensic Collision Investigators, and local diversions are in place.Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this incident to come forward.A garda spokesperson said: “Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in the Castlerea area from 12am (midnight) to 2am on Sunday 15th September 2024 are asked to make this footage available to Gardaí.“Anyone with any information is asked to contact Castlerea Garda Station on 094 9621 630, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.”
