Tributes to Co Armagh woman who died after battle with rare form of cancer

Picture: GoFundMeTributes have been paid to a Co Armagh woman who has died after battling a rare form of cancer.Roisin Molloy’s fight had inspired the local community to launch a fundraising effort for life-extending treatment.But she passed away on Friday.Roisin (38), from Keady, had been diagnosed with a rare, incurable form of spinal cancer, anaplastic ependymoma, in November 2021.After going through 30 sessions of intense radiotherapy, initial scans were positive.However, her tumours started to grow again and she required chemotherapy to slow down their growth.Earlier this year, a GoFundMe page was set up to raise funds to send Roisin to Mexico for specialist treatment.More than £50,000 was raised, however, in the last fortnight, the family were told that chemotherapy had not worked and no other treatment was possible.A funeral notice said she passed away “peacefully at home in the presence of her devoted family”.Her funeral mass will take place at 11am on Monday in St Patrick's Church, Keady, with burial afterwards in the church cemetery.Among those paying tribute were members of the local Keady Michael Dwyers GFC.It said: "Anyone who knows anything about the GAA in Keady will understand how integral the Molloy family are to the GAA community."And so we pass on to them our sincerest condolences at this incredibly difficult time.“We must keep the whole Molloy family circle and friends in our thoughts and prayers as they mourn the passing of Roisin, who at only 38 years old has been taken much too soon.“She will be sorely missed by her family, friends and wider community.”St Patrick’s camogie club said: "We as a club are devastated today at the news of the passing of Roisin Molloy."It added: “Roisin fought a battle with such strength, courage and bravery, who in her 38th year has been taken far too soon.”
