US Army demonstrates NEMO 120mm mortar system

US Army soldiers demonstrated successful fire missions using American mortar ammunition with the Patria NEMO 120-millimetre turreted mortar system. The Finnish weapon was integrated onto an Armoured Multi-Purpose Vehicle (AMPV) and Fire Direction System (FDS). The US Army strives to provide Armoured and Stryker Brigade Combat Teams with rapid, precise, indirect and direct fire capabilities where the operating crew is well protected, and their physical burden, impulse noise effects and blast overpressure are significantly reduced. Since 2020, Patria has conducted a turreted mortar feasibility study including Foreign Comparative Testing with the US Army for Patria NEMO. NEMO is a remote-controlled mortar system capable of both direct and indirect fire missions – also on the move. It is capable of direct and indirect fire missions. It weighs around 1,900kg and offers a full 360º traverse and weapon elevation from -3° up to 85°.See Also:US Army Dragoons to be replaced by new lethality Stryker from early 2025 Patria to acquire open-source company from WithSecure The system can execute multiple rounds simultaneous impact (MRSI) fire missions with up to six rounds hitting the target at the same time.
